Unix 계열 운영체제와 리눅스에서 명령어를 슈퍼유저인 root 권한으로 실행시켜주는 명령어이다. 원래는 Super User DO의 약자였지만, Substitute User DO로 뜻이 변경되었다. 명령어를 root 권한으로 실행하기에, 만일 sudo rm -rf / 라는 명령어를 사용하면, 컴퓨터가 놀라울 정도로 깨끗해진다.
